In my thesis semester I wanted to create a design that reflected the monotony of growing up in the suburbs. A little person with a gas can can be spotted running in between houses ablaze. I painted this with ink and sumi brush initially and then scanned the linework in, rasterized it, and created an AI file to create the repeat and color ways.

I printed this file onto multiple materials- organza, cotton, linen, and used dye sublimation and digital printers to test out materials for this pattern.

I then used the pattern for the curtains of a window portal that was included in my ‘Welcome Home’ installation.
